Maori Lessons

Māori Lessons – 1 Hour Class

Develop confidence in te reo Māori and deepen understanding of Māori language and culture in our one-hour Māori lessons, designed for students aged 5–18.

Each lesson is adapted to the student’s age, experience and school-learning goals. Younger learners are introduced to correct pronunciation, greetings, numbers, colours, family words, songs and simple everyday phrases through engaging activities. Older students can develop vocabulary, sentence construction, reading, writing, listening and conversational skills while strengthening their understanding of grammar and language patterns.

Lessons may also explore concepts such as pepeha, whānau, whakapapa, tikanga, pūrākau and the relationship between language, identity, community and the natural world. These topics are approached respectfully and at a level appropriate to the student.

Classes can support schoolwork, improve pronunciation, prepare students for assessments or help learners feel more comfortable using te reo Māori in everyday situations. Students are encouraged to practise without fear of making mistakes and to build their knowledge steadily.
